Extension for filing returns in Form GSTR-5A and GSTR-6


The Ministry of Finance has extended the date for filing of returns in Form GSTR-5A and GSTR-6.The notifications came into force from 28th August, 2017.
As per the Notification No. 25/2017 – Central Tax, Form GSTR-5A for July, 2017 has been extended to 15th September, 2017.
Notification No. 26/2017 – Central Tax notifies the last date of filing of return in Form GSTR-6 for July 2017 as 8th September 2017 and August 2017 as 23rd September 2017.

It is to be noted that the original date of monthly returns GSTR-5A and GSTR-6 is 20th day and 13th day of the succeeding calendar month respectively.

Form GSTR-5A is required to be filed by a person supplying online information and database access or retrieval services from a place outside India to a non-taxable online recipient and Form GSTR-6 is the return for furnishing details by Input Service Distributor.

Earlier also government had extended the time limits for filing Form GSTR1 and GSTR2 via notifications. Thus, it can be seen that it is trying to ease out the new GST environment for everyone so that businesses can make themselves handy with GST Returns.
